Small groups are where intimate relationships between brothers and sisters in Christ are created and nurtured. St. John encourages all of its members to have active small group and educational lives.
“‘The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,’ which means, ‘God is with us.’” – Matthew 1:23
Emmanuel Groups are small groups with 4 to 10 members. Group meetings have three components: sharing, Bible study and application, and prayer. Participants can decide when, where, and for how long they meet. Emmanuel Group meetings have seven basic rules.
- We will not discuss anything said in the group outside the group.
- We will each have the time to talk, question, confess, and pray.
- We will share the work needed to make our group grow and flourish.
- We will talk about ourselves and our own situations and avoid conversation and gossip about other people.
- We will listen attentively and compassionately to each other.
- We will pray for each other.
- We will strive to grow and multiply our group.
The LCMC Guide for Missional Accountability Groups has other helpful rules for Emmanuel Groups.
